The Heath N.S. is currently in the beginning processes of participating in the Green Schools programme. Green-Schools is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.
It is a long-term programme that introduces students, teachers, parents and the wider community to the concept of an environmental management system. It fosters a strong sense of citizenship and leadership among participants that spreads far outside the school into the wider community. It brings children into the decision-making process and makes them responsible for their decisions and actions.
The Green Flag is awarded to schools upon completion of all elements of the programme which is monitored over one year.
In the coming weeks we will be setting up a Green School Committee in the school and they will begin working on making our school a more environmentally friendly place while also organising various events and competitions to raise awareness. We will be updating our website regularly with all of our Green Goings On and we will also be putting up tips and hints of how you can be greener at home!
