Our school places a high value on school attendance. Research has shown that good attendance leads to high levels of pupil engagement with school which has a positive impact on their levels of attainment. Poor levels of attendance have the opposite impact leading to poor engagement, poor educational outcomes, weaker peer relationships, higher risk of engagement in anti-social activity, poor family relationships and less likelihood of continuing to further study. Our school monitors attendance levels and contacts parents when concerns arise. Parents are expected to send their children to school every day unless they are unwell or there is a significant family reason.
The school's attendance policy and Statement of Strategy for school attendance are available below. The Statement of Strategy is required under the Education (Welfare) Act 2000 and is also submitted to our school patron and Tusla.
