Our Cumann na mBunscol Laoise Tráth na gCeist takes place on Tuesday 25th February at 7pm in Holy Family NS, Portlaoise.
Parents of participants are invited to attend, however space is limited. A tuck shop will also be open on the night.
This year, our quiz will be a sports based quiz, as to align with the launch of the first ever All-Ireland Cumann na mBunscol primary schools quiz. 
This is a change from our traditionally well-attended general knowledge quiz, which we hope to revisit and host later in the school year, but we still encourage all schools to enter a team.

​On Tuesday 25th February, our 6th class Volleyball teams will represent the school at the Laois Volleyball Blitz organised by the Volleyball Ireland. The bus will leave at 9.45am and return around around 1pm

​Swimming for Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 5th and 6th classes begins after Christmas. The children will swim every Thursday for six weeks. Junior Infants and 6th Class will swim from 10.30 to 11.15 and Senior Infants and 5th class will swim from 11.15 to 12.00 
All children attend swimming unless they have a medical condition that prevents them from doing so. In such circumstances, a doctor’s letter stating the condition is required. The cost of swimming this year is €50 per pupil, which includes transport and entry to the pool. Payment is through the school app or at the school office at any stage in January or February
All pupils will require swimming togs, a swimming hat and a towel. On swimming days, children wear their school tracksuit.

Next week (Monday 10th-Friday 14th February) is Kindness Week in our school. We will be raising awareness around kindness and each class will be completing lessons and activities about kindness. Each pupil will also have a secret person for the week to do Random Acts of Kindness. Finally, Kindness week will finish on Friday 14th with a Pyjama day for all pupils.

Credit Union Quiz

• The quiz will take place in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Monday 10th February at 7.00pm. We ask all participants to be at the venue at 6.30pm sharp. The closing date for entries is Friday 31st January 2025.

Well done to our two Quiz Teams who took part in the Credit Union Quiz last night. Our Senior Team had Noah Clear, Emma Hyland, Lucy Ryan from 6th Class and Mae Delaney from 5th Class
​Our Junior Team finished 2nd overall and had Sean Ging from 5th class alongside.

 

This is our robot. His name is Swish. He has a long catapult arm which he uses to shoot 3 small green plush balls into one of four targets in the arena. Swish uses a roller at the front to pick up each ball. Each score is worth 2 points. 6th Class were given a robot by VEX IQ which is a robotics company. Every year they host a robot competition and this it is called Rapid Relay and The Heath N.S was picked to participate. It was built by Lucy Ryan, Aisha Riippa, James Tynan, Tom Sheeran, Aidan Hyland and Anna Cushen
VEX Robotics Competition takes place on Wednesday 5th February in Ballyroan NS 

• Arrive from 9:30am. Arenas will be available for practice. Each team will have their own station to work from;
• Students bring a packed lunch. 
• We hope to have everyone out and back on the buses by 2pm.
