Researchers from The Today FM Breakfast show will visit our school on Monday 17th April for the purpose of recording from the school for broadcast on the show. The researchers will select twenty to twenty five children from 1st to 3rd class to interview.

6th Class Bake Sale  takes place on Wednesday 19th April. All proceeds go to Kolbe School.

On Thursday 30th of March we will be engaging with the Mental Health Ireland initiative "Hello, how are you? The children will have no homework on this day and in its place we are asking you to take active time out of your day to sit down with your child and ask them how they are?, how are they feeling? Words they would use to describe their current mood etc. It would be beneficial to encourage them to listen to how you may be feeling also. The "Hello, how are you? initiative is promoting the importance of checking in on those around us and to allow your child opportunities to be more understanding and empathetic of  others and themselves through meaningful conversation. It could be a good time to encourage your child to make a phone call to a grandparent/relative or family friend that may be living alone or maybe to check in with someone who they know and see often but don't usually engage in these meaningful conversations with. We will be fundraising for Mental Health Ireland on this day and we ask you for a contribution of €2 per day.

Music Generation Laois are holding a Community Concert on Friday 31st March at 5pm in St. Peter and Paul's Church(Parish Church) Portlaoise.
As part of our work with Music Generation this year our 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes have been invited to perform at the concert.
Parents should bring their children to the church no later than 4.40pm and remain in the church. The children will assemble on the Dublin Road side of the altar. All children should wear their full school uniform. The children will be performing first in the concert. After concluding their songs, the children will re-join their parents for the remainder of the concert.

1st, 2nd and 3rd class pupils have been invited by our Music Generation teacher, Nuala Kelly to participate in a Community Concert taking place in St. Peter & Paul's Church, Portlaoise on Friday 31st March at 5pm.

Computer classes for 3rd-6th are on going and will run until Easter. Parents are remined that there is only one payment for computers of €50 this year. If you have not paid yet, please do so before Easter.

Our annual class draught tournaments are nearing a conclusion with only the school championship left to play. Well done to all the pupils in 1st-6th classes for taking part and congratulations to the class winners. The school championship began this week with the top eight players in 3rd to 6th playing to be the 2023 school champion.

Down Syndrome Ireland Day takes place tomorrow Tuesday 21st March. To raise awareness we ask all children to wear odd/crazy socks.

Senior Infants will host an Art Exhibition on Friday 10th March at 1.30pm. They will display the work they have completed over the last of number of with weeks with the resident Artist Orla McDonagh. All parents are welcome
